The "Myth-Zeus was BAD" take. Groundbreaking.

But true. Repetition of the truth doesn’t diminish it, no matter how tired some may be of hearing it stated.

They haven't even deep dived into Norse mythology yet, why are they bringing Greek into it?

(Anonymous) 2022-06-18 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
This, exactly. There are so many more Norse gods/goddesses and mythological figures to have fun with, it feels weird to move on directly to the A-listers of Greek mythology.

I assume it has some basis in the comics? That’s usually the explanation when the movies do something weird with mythology.

I'm assuming because they need a well-known god to murder off. It's a movie where the villain is a powerful god killer, after all - they need to set the stakes.

SA
Oh yeah, also to expand that the MCU has more "pantheons" then just Norse, since the villain is going around killing all the gods. Again, stakes!

Odin was a rapist though. Not anywhere near Zeus level, but still.

Besides, the Marvel versions of the characters are different from the actual myths.

Most gods in general aren't exactly beacons of morality.

And then the Christians come in like “this is my OC, his name is God bc he’s actually the only real god, and he’s kind and fair and loving and ALWAYS right, do not steal!”

In case anyone’s gonna say the Jews did it first, God is downright petty and vindictive in the OT. It’s only after he has a kid that he gets the Marty Stu treatment.

NAYRT

But this is a great comment, I love it!

the reviews suggest that the villain, a god-killer, is sympathetic, so yeah wouldn't be surprised if Zeus is an ass. What we've seen of him, taking off Thor's clothes, is actually creepy, even if it's 100% played for laughs.
