Vent thread

For all your venting needs.

My vent for today is that I'd planned to get a massage. I had it scheduled for a week, and I've been looking forward to it. My body is really sore, and I really needed it.

Unfortunately, when I got to the massage place, they told me they'd overbooked. They refunded me in cash even though I paid by card. They had my phone number and my email, but they didn't bother to call or email to let me know. I will not be using them again.

I'm interested in transgressive fiction and am reading more and more of it this year in search of answers to my own problems in life but I'd be lying if I said I loved the genre with my whole heart. There is in fact a lot of garbage to sort to through to find the gems that make the journey worth it but I suppose every genre of literature is like that. Excessive reading is also one of my many vices; gives me an excuse not to go out and experience the world directly which is arguably against the spirit of what many of the voices in transgressive fiction preach. Sigh. Well, better books than coke I guess. Maybe. Lol.

What is transgressive fiction please?

Also, I get you nonny. Fic has helped me piece many things together over the years, albeit more so in the noughties and nineties than now.

Popular examples of transgressive fiction include Requiem For A Dream, The Metamorphosis, The Catcher in the Rye, Naked Lunch, Lolita, Crash, American Psycho, 1984, Fight Club, A Clockwork Orange, The 120 Days of Sodom, and Heart of Darkness. Transgressive fiction often features 'defective' protagonists who do not fit well in modern society, either unwilling or unable to follow its rules due to mental illness or economic class related issues. Popular themes include personality altering drugs, taboo variants of sex, and a host of other illegal activities and crime, all of which highlight the human mind either freed or strained further under duress. Transgressive fiction explores the battle that we wage with ourselves, by ourselves, against a world that would rather us not exist.

Ugh, that sucks; I'm sorry you're in pain and sorry they cancelled with no warning. Here's hoping you get a massage soon and it helps.

I didn't get everything I wanted to done today, because I was stuck on a bus in an unexpected traffic jam for over an hour, and then when I got home I was putting groceries away and stood up and hit my head on the freezer door hard enough that I started crying.

At least the ice pack was in easy reach, but I hate being such a klutz. And I just got over covid, wear a mask everywhere in public, and am vaccinated and boosted, so hopefully I didn't catch covid or anything else on the bus.

But my head still hurts and I may stay home tomorrow, even though it's the busiest day of the week and at least one other person is out. But I won't be much use like this.
