Another phantom fan here and holy shit, I remember this one! I forget the title, and I don't remember the site it was hosted on, but I remember enjoying it. Not as much as you, but I'm sorry you never heard back from the author or found out how it ended.

My favorite abandoned fic was one posted to ff.net set in the 1970s with I think dirtbag punk rocker Erik, sensible Muslim friend Nadir whose parents took him in, and middle class(?) Christine that maybe had a Scottish Erik that pre-dated the 2004 movie, before the idea of Scottish Erik made me want to punch things.

I think Christine worked as a cashier or something. I remember Christine being surprised that Erik liked Elton John, heh. And I don't know if it's still up anywhere. With such an old fandom there are tons of awesome fics that disappeared over the years.

I don't know if it would hold up to a reread, since I remember Erik being woobified in the extreme and I'm not a huge fan of massive woobie whump fic anymore, but there was a trilogy that maybe originated in a print zine with the now standard "Christine returns to Erik post ALW musical" plot that I remember really enjoying at the time. It was "Erik didn't even mean or manage to kill Piangi" levels of woobie, one of the stories was called Dénouement, and I don't think it's online anymore. I found a lot of fics through the Michael Crawford Phantom Movie Campaign site, and that one was very definitely based on him.

I don't know that there were ever any massive PotO fic archives; I remember a few smallish ones on geocities and angelfire and so on, but I really miss the Phantomoftheopera.com forum that was owned by the literal BNF who'd changed her name to Christine Daaé. But then I miss forums, full stop.

Please, do you remember the name of the punk rocker dirtbag Erik? Lol this sounds amazing

AYRT--I have no idea; if I'm right about it pre-dating the 2004 movie and it's still up, start searching ff.net? It wasn't written as crack or a comedy and was definitely far removed from the original story--no murders, for one thing, and no age gap.

AYRT--nevermind, found it; it post-dates the 2004 film by a year. And, uh, warning for drug use and period typical homophobia in the first chapter?

I miss the PotO forums too (and forums generally). I pretty much just lurked, but there were so many interesting discussions I still remember (or half-remember, at least).
