This was me too. I was furloughed for three months and I couldn't wait to get back to work by the time it was over, I was so bored and lonely. It SOUNDS great on paper but after the first month and a half or so I found it completely intolerable because to me at least, when I had nothing else to do BUT my hobbies, I got bored of them. I had plans for all of these productive things I was going to do during my time off and I did exactly none of them.

as someone who has been unemployed for many years, that part has always been difficult to explain to people. yes i can theoretically play video games all day, but there is no excitement* to it, it's just a way to pass the time.

(*of course every once in a while something will get released that i'll binge with gusto, but that is the rare exception)

Yeah, exactly. Half the fun of playing video games is the fact that you normally DON'T get to play video games all the time, so when you do it's a fun treat to look forward to. I'll be sitting there at work and think, "I can't wait to get home so I can play some Animal Crossing!" And then I'll be looking forward to it all day, so when I finally do get home I'm hyped to play. But if I can just walk over and pick up my Switch at any point in time that I want, it's like you said - there's no excitement to it anymore.

Same situation. For me, I only play after a fixed time in the evening or on weekends. Even if I have nothing else to do, playing during the day, when I KNOW other people are working, gives me this nagging feeling of failure even more so than usual so I wouldn't get any enjoyment out of it.
