It's all smoke and mirrors to distract from Partygate, how badly they're fucking over Northern Ireland, how badly they're fucking up the NHS, the PPE scandal, how badly they've fucked up the cost of living crisis, the Rwanda plan, and how badly they've fucked up with Brexit. There's a lot to be angry about, so they're putting out these small stupid jingoistic things that literally nobody wants - not even people who were already adults when decimilisation occurred- because smaller bitesize things are easier for the public to conceptually get pissed off about and it becomes the focus of their anger. Fuck the Tories. Fuck them so hard.

And literally just today Boris was rushed to hospital for a "nasal emergency" too, because I guess it isn't polite to say he snorted too much cocaine at once.

Hadn't even occurred to me, but you're probably not wrong. JFC

A lot of us use a weird mash-up of the two systems anyway, even though I went through school entirely metric (apart from being in Maths Set 1 meaning I needed to do a few lessons on imperial because reasons) I measure my height in feet and inches, my weight in stone, my beer in pints, my speed in mph because that's just what I got used to?

The absolutely fucking stupid (diversion tactic) about all this isn't that we can't or don't use imperial in certain contexts. It's the idea that shops etc will be able to use ONLY imperial like that's some sort of "stick it to the EU!" instead of the "literally nobody under the age of 60 buys all their food in imperial, why are you even doing this?!" that it actually is.

And the galling thing is when they say "you'll get used to it" - what, like you people resolutely refused to do with metric for half a century? It's the hypocrisy that annoys me. Like, we should all be looking backwards to comfort a generation grappling with their twilight years. I know it comes to us all, but it's annoying being held hostage to nostalgia like this. I'm more bothered about my energy bills going up. I'm not even that old and I remember crowns on pint glasses when I first started (legally) drinking. I don't give a shit about getting them back, pay people what they're worth, sort out the housing crisis. Anything but these stupid Boomer pleasing or Boomer-adjacent (it's a state of mind, not necessarily an age thing) pleasing piles of shite.

Also base 10 makes way more sense than anything else in overall use. Fight me.

It is flagrant lunacy. The rest of the world uses standard units which are all metric and base 10 for Christ sake. And also I don't know a single person over 60 who thinks it's a good idea. Turns out 50 years is enough time for just about everyone to adjust, except maybe some really stuck stick in the muds.

* Rest of the world except America that is, and they don't count.

It's a way to secure votes from people who won't be here to be voting 20ish years from now, who are already voting for them anyway. And maybe their kids/grandkids who are just parroting the same stuff because they're not exposed to anything different.

But there won't be enough OF those kids or grandkids to make much of a difference once the current top generation are gone and there's a generational adjustment coming as you're not guaranteed the things that, allegedly, entice more people to vote Conservative. But why would the current lot care? Not their problem when that adjustment happens. They won't be in charge by then, simply retired and milking the autobiography/after dinner speech circuit.

As you say, lunacy.

I really don't think even most of their voter base is keen on it though. The comments on the Telegraph articles about it have been 99.9% negative - and that's from the Torygraph readers FCOL. I really don't think it's going to earn them many votes at all, it might even lose them some.

Aye you’re probably right. Problem for them is, the cost of living crisis is hitting almost everyone and HARD.

I genuinely think they're so out of touch that they think people are exaggerating how bad things are. I mean these are people who think 30p a meal per person is sufficient to live on long term. They have no clue. None.

Also, I heard the other day that petrol in France is currently around 1.20. I don't know how true that is, but if it is it certainly blows the excuses about the Ukraine out of the water.

*About UKRAINE sorry, not the Ukraine. Bad bad habit
