Arrgh, I totally get that.
I love Dick Francis - English ex-steeplechase jockey (for the Queen, no less!) turned mystery writer.

When his son started to help him write (a last couple of books), you could see a tiny difference, but not enough to *make* a difference. Then his son sort of took over the writing after Mr. Francis died, even writing a 'last' book with a character that had starred in several other books over the years. And OMFG, his son just...sucks. Suddenly, the collected, usually calm, thinking and logical hero is literally screaming, running around, and panicking like an idiot, the women became shrill and shrewish, the mysteries kind of gory, and all in all - just very Poor Man's mysteries.
