yes, but it is only in china we call it propaganda. if we heard that in, say, japan the government promoted someone who shares content about traditional ways of preparing food or dyeing clothes we wouldn't feel it was necessary to mention it when discussing their channel, because like, duh, countries want to preserve and promote their culture.

like im not saying the ccp is above propaganda, it's just that anything portraying china in a positive light gets labeled propaganda and that's really a bit fucked

Yeah, how about we talk again when Japan has re-education camps you get sent to if you have the wrong religion, speak out against corruption, minority rights or police brutality or get sexually assaulted by the wrong person.

Fucking this! Unless we’re talking about Imperial Japan, which nobody is rn, Japan and China aren’t comparable in this day and age.

The Japanese government (like basically all governments) certainly has its problems with its treatment of minorities, but it's also not currently in the process of committing cultural genocide on parts of the country that don't fit in with a certain view of what the country should be. People who want to celebrate Ryuukyuu or Ainu traditions and language can do so without fear of being arrested. If these were videos promoting an idyllic view of Tibetan nomadic life, which is one of those cultures the Chinese government is trying to stomp out by forcibly relocating people and suppressing their language and religion, she would not be treated the same way by the government.

ok and?

(Anonymous) 2022-06-22 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
'okay and?'

OKAY AND that means there's a huge decking difference, and there are good valid reasons people talk about China this way rather than hur dur racism.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-22 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
but you're not talking about china, you're talking about a chinese person. hurr durr

(Anonymous) 2022-06-22 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you know that China’s made of people?

(Anonymous) 2022-06-22 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT

I don’t think ayrt knows anything. They’re just running on bullshit and calling it “playing devils advocate”.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-22 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Well YOU may only call it that if it involves China. I've seen plenty of calls on other places.
