Eh, if your music is loud enough for cars in other lanes to hear, they're probably judging you for playing it so loud it's disturbing others and/or making you unable to respond to audio cues while driving, not for the content

to add, esp if I'm playing music and yours is so loud that I hear it over mine playing in my own car, yeah that displays a lack of social awareness and unsafe driving /shrug

I get your points and I actually agree that music too loud is not good, especially for safety reasons, but if your window's down and there are people crossing the street or walking near the stop, they're going to hear the music even if it's not that loud.
When the cars are moving you don't hear almost anything, if they're at the stops YOU HEAR EVERYTHING. There are a lot of random radio stations or private conversations that I've overheard without wanting to just because my window was down (I don't have air conditioning in my car, so it's always down if not in winter) and I was chilling at a stop.

The thing is, it is hard to tell at least for some of us if those outside our car can hear our music. I have no idea. So while I'm not the OP I too turn down my music at stoplights just in case.

I turn mine up, because I believe it is my duty to introduce people to new musical experiences.

I always have the volume on medium/low settings, but I sing. LOUDLY. I do believe it is my sacred duty to remind people to have fun while commuting.

I'm sorry you feel embarrassed judged. That said, thank you for turning your music down! I feel like it's less popular to drive around with your bass rattling other people's teeth but every now and then I am reminded of the 90s.

I personally don't mind if people know what I listen to and I listen to incredibly cringe stuff like anime openings (both the Japanese version and the ones in my native language) or random Russian rap. I'm 30+ years old now. I don't have any fucks to give anymore.
I do try to always mantain the volume low because I'm easily distrancted otherwise.

I own an AE86, by fandom law I am required to listen to Eurobeat so everyone at the lights can feel like they are in an Episode of Initial D.

I'm trying to think if any of my music would make me self-conscious anymore, and I'm really not sure. In the past it would've been pop music I was most likely to feel self-conscious about, but pop music is mostly considered cool now anyway.

And then most stuff that previously might've been "cringe" is now, "Lol ICONIC," so like, yes, I'm listening to Doctor Jones. Yes, I'm listening to The Bad Touch. Yes, I'm listening to Oops I Did It Again. And I am having a blast.

Aha! Want U Back by Cher Lloyd! So there's one. It's a fucking bop, but the lyrics are the shallowest, bitchiest shit, and I'd honestly be embarrassed if even strangers I'd never properly met believed I was vapid and mean enough to unironically relate to them.

If i'm listening to music in my car (doesn't happen often), I turn it up, 'cause music in cars should be loud, whooo!
And seriously, fuck 'em if they 'judge' you - let 'em! Who cares? You're not gonna met up with them later or something, so play your music loud and enjoy it!
