This is not at all the fic you're looking for, but out of curiosity, have you read Away Childish Things by lettered?

https://archiveofourown.org/works/16052816/chapters/37478033

Asking because it heavily explores the idea of shitty parents and what they do to you, as well as how love, kindness, and support can do quite a lot to untangle the knots that shitty parenting ties one up in. It's straight up not the fic you're asking for, to be clear. But I thought I'd mention it, because it has a heavy focus on some of the elements you seem to be looking for, and it is insanely, stupidly, deliriously well written. I don't even usually like the core trope at play in this fic, and it still makes my fanfic GOAT list.

Also, the very brief summary makes it sound like the focus is on Harry, but without spoiling anything, I will say that the focus is actually very much fifty-fifty. And the summary only covers what happens in the first third of the fic.

I think I have heard of it, but can't remember. I'll give it a go. Thank you!
