I'm not sure the analogy works fully for real life, but yes, I liked Freck as a character. I also like we got to see more on how "regular" people in this universe, on both sides nd in between.

Why? Isn’t it supposed to be analogous to the type of people who have flags on the back of their trucks irl?

Because honestly I feel that Star Wars, of all fandoms, really does have a tendency to have things fall into black and white more than most modern day media. Which is not really their fault now, as this property has existed since the 70's and media were vastly different then. But it's the whole dark side/light side divide that goes deeper than just force users. And the world has a lot of problematic things, like slavery and child labor, that have gone unaddressed for decades, even by "good" characters. Which I feel is where it starts to break down. In fact, I feel that Obi-Wan is the first show in that universe that genuinely tried to course-correct very subtly without making it jarring. But I still think literal comparisons with real life groups will make the cognitive dissonance in the world worse, and ultimately breaks down (i.e. how do you compare say, Freck, to Qui-Gon, who as a Jedi is portrayed as morally good, but structurally seems to ignore slavery unless it's a force sensitive child he wants to rescue). I also think that saying that anyone who is right leaning, in the real world, is evil or backstabbing ignores a lot of human nature, it's more complex, and people generally vote in their own benefit (which is also how I sort of saw Freck, someone who's personal situation on a shitty planet likely got better because of the Empire. I also read it that way because Tala is basically the other side of the coin there, someone who believed the Empire was right and then saw the error of it. And both gave us a view into how very regular folks might have seen the Empire in a time when it had not grown into cartoonishly evil proportions yet). Though, I do concede it's more dire in American politics right now, where things are far more polarized than average, but again I do not think the comparison fully stands, as the universe was not based on that dynamic. The Empire from A New Hope were basically inspired by OG fascists, but I think in Obi-Wan we're seeing a universe where the main public might not be aware of that yet.

Where did I say any of that about right leaning people? I was talking about the stereotypical people who have flags on their trucks. They are right leaning people for sure. But they’re a specific type of overly patriotic, to the point of jingoistic, that is what a deck seems to be based on. He also has other traits of general right wing people as well, but I didn’t bring up any of that.

But I never said any of that about right leaning people, as a whole or otherwise. Nor did I say Freck wasn’t portrayed sympathetically or understandably in some ways. I only said “the type of people who have flags on the back of their trucks irl”?

I mean, I can't tell about other people in the world, but a core vision of right-leaning people in the US is seeing the value of strong-man authoritarianism. It's actually quite scary interesting how much regular people's philosophy has a core fashy foundation (a certain type of religious thought, no matter the religion, doesn't help).

Like, "people's own benefit" includes destroying anything that would challenge their one ring to rule them all perspective.

Those regular "nice" people, the guy who helps build your fence or the old lady who always asks how you are doing, but have blue lives matter sticker on their truck or just worry about how the neighborhood is going down hill since that couple with a transkid moved in, are the fascists. They are your frecks. You don't have to pick up a gun or be herding people into boxcars to be one. HTH.
