I relate her (and likewise Devon Sawa) to The Odyssey series from the early 90s. It also featured a baby Ryan Reynolds (and by 'baby' I mean he was a teenager the same as the rest of them)

But also hey! Someone else who remembers Space Cases! We had just gotten cable/Nickelodeon at the time, and I was allowed to watch it because one of the creators was Bill Mumy, aka: the kid from the OG Lost In Space.

Space Cases! I loved this show so much! (and to be honest, I still do)

I really related a lot to Catalina's struggle to be believed about Suzee, as I've been living with schizophrenia my whole life that really manifested itself around the time this show aired. It was oddly validating to see someone on TV that was "like me".

But yes. Space Cases is now back on my rewatch list.

OP, can you give some examples of why someone might think that? Scene analysis, interviews with the creator, something?

Because I've seen Pom Poko and I really wasn't getting any Imperial Japan vibes from... any of that, and I'm interested where this theory comes from.

I'm not sure the analogy works fully for real life, but yes, I liked Freck as a character. I also like we got to see more on how "regular" people in this universe, on both sides nd in between.

I feel like at this point you have to be able to let it go, and separate the thing you like from the creator. the more time passes, the more likely they'll end up being problematic.

OMG, I'd completely forgotten the title of this book and your secret brought a LOT back to me. Tead it as a kid (probably around ... 11? 12?) as I was just having the first vague ideas of what in the world sex was or how it worked - and I remember being TOTALLY OBSESSED with that assault scene to the point that I must have re-read that tiny section a billion times, and the rest of the adventure (wolves! ice! ... I vaguely remember a ... race of some kind?) Yeah, the rest of the book is hazy, but that scene was OBSESSED over by kid-me.
Half of me wanting her to give him what for and escape and half of me being disappointed that she didn't go along with it to at least see what sex was LIKE. There I was thinking "... yeah, obviously he's awful, but ... they ARE married, so she COULD just try sex and nobody could even be MAD at her..." and "yes, he's disgusting, but OMG OMG OMG what if she HADN'T pushed him away, what would have happened NEXT?"
Yeah, pre-teen me was very not informed and pretty much treated this book like explicit porn / a sex manual.

I have a hard time liking creators who fell on the Depp side of the Heard vs Depp debacle anymore.
I know this case was a hot mess, and I don't even mind if people say they're both assholes or whatever. I'm not "Hashtag Team Amber" or something.
But if someone really, truly believes Depp never laid a hand on her, or that it was all in self-defense, I think they have bad judgement and are terrible at discerning information from biased memes and jokes.
I'd only recently started watching him, but I haven't since then. I was too disappointed.
