For me, the sweet spot is hero nonconsensually railing the villain, or villain very consensually railing the hero. I just think those are the more interesting (and hot) dynamics.

When authors can write a consensual hero/villain fic while keeping the characters completely in character, it is really fun to read and often incredibly hot. Especially if they both stay who they are in canon and remain a hero and a villain. But it is really hard to make that work.
