OP here - Have you ever teamed up in a game with someone who owns a good system/device, and tells you to get gud because you're lagging so much your skills don't even matter? That's just one example. Of course, overworking or not even sleeping to try to match privileged people's paces are things, too. It's always "oh but ALL you have to do is (thing that is difficult for me)", always the same "all you have to do is be me!" kind of attitude. Gets annoying after a while, or a couple of decades. Surprise! Poor people get depressed too. (this wasn't directed at you, only some of the above anons.)
While I still like the creative outlets and sense of community, the part where you interact with people when people are like this is just not pleasant. It's stressful. Maybe it has a lot to do with the fact that fandom is a popular hobby nowadays, but I also feel like the symbolic value of money is more valued in fandom than it used to be. People who have a lot of money and make others envious (because they have access to all the DLCs, all the games, all the cosplays, all the merch, all the events, all the...) have always been a thing, but for some reason it feels like it matters more now. Maybe it's because photos and videos (and streaming, cosplaying and so forth) are more commonplace nowadays. Maybe it's because companies now fully acknowledge the power that (Internet) fandoms hold. In any case, I feel like money is an important factor in the fandom game nowadays. Back then fandom was escapism from a harsh social reality for me but I don't always feel like that anymore. Sorry, that was long.

Exactly! Never had a 3DS either. Been contemplating getting one or even a Switch but of course I keep putting it off because, gotta get important things first (... an office chair. My back hurts). But I know the feeling because I went through this with other franchises. FOMO so real. But yeah gotta look at the bright side.

So true, and I also enjoy retrogaming but at least here even retrogaming is pretty expensive if we're not talking piracy or abandonware. And don't even get me started on my therapy bills.
