OP of secret here, HAHA thanks, this Discord story made me feel understood. Yes, it's that. Even the things we pay attention to in media (and life obviously) tends to change and it can feel kind of isolating... I have teen mutuals, I am the "living encyclopedia aunt" that goes "oh yep I was in that fandom ten years ago! It goes like this:" and it's okay but babysitting for free in your free time day in and day out isn't fun.

I had a blast the other day when I was reading a manga, and for some reason the scanlators (apparently older women themselves) finished each chapter with screenshots of conversations they had while translating the manga. One particular chapter hit me so hard I had to go out for a walk (it involved marriage and... adult concerns?) and I felt almost stupid for being so triggered by a manga, but then I laughed so hard in the end because they were talking about how it also hit them hard because of past experiences. And you can't really have these "OH YOU GET ME!!" experiences with teens. So, yep.
