Being drunk or/and high is superfun, but watching other people be drunk and/or high is not great fun at all. It gets worse if you have had to babysit the drunkards too, and are busy recalling that while watching the characters on screen. I gotta agree with the OP.

1. It's actually finevto be friends with teenagers? They're generally good people and they need adult friends in their lives.

2. Internet fandom as it currently exists can be traced, in a very real way, to a mailing list callex HP4GU: Harry Potter For Grownups. There has always been a place for adult fans of kids' media to be. Even in the most kid-focused fandoms, I promise there are adult-majority spaces. You just have to be willing to wade in far enough to make enough friends to find them. I'm currently in a *terrifyingly* young fandom but the adult-majority spaces are there I promise!

I think for the most part in fandom these days, you have basically two choices - you can like childish media and share fandoms with teenagers, or you can like other media and share fandoms with no one. It's a pretty narrow slice of fandoms where one or the other isn't true.

Yeah, being casual friends with teenagers over a shared interest or activity is a totally normal thing. How do people think teenagers learn to become well-adjusted adults if not from the examples of other adults in their lives?

I have nothing against teenagers, I just have no real personal interest in interacting with them and it's very hit-or-miss whether I like the fanwork they produce.
