Re: What song do you wish would make a big resurgence?

All the 80s Bowie songs anyone remembers are from the early 80s, no? Not the mid-80s

I guess there's "Absolute Beginners" but I don't think it's that high on anyone's list of Bowie songs

I get what you're saying, but popular songs don't just get radio play for the year they were released. "Baba O'Riley" was used in season 3, and that season wasn't set in 1971.

anon above me is right; as a radio veteran of the 80s and 90s I can guarantee that "Dance Hall Days," his duet with Mick Jagger, and a number of other hits would have been considered classic recurrent in 1986 - still playing in certain rotations. Anything less than 5 years old that was a top-10 hit in its time would still have been played on the radio, if not as frequently as a current song. Hell, top-20 was guaranteed. Between 20-50 and it was at least still kept in the station in case someone requested it and the DJ felt like doing them a solid. Lower half of the top-100, less likely.

As a Bowie fan, this whole post made me wince. But here goes.

* Let's Dance was a hugely commercial album for Bowie and it was released in 1983, a mere three years before this season was set. He wasn't exactly an obscure artist at the time, even if looking back his mid-80s albums aren't considered his best.

* Labyrinth came out in 1986, and while it wasn't a huge success at the time, it's a cult flick now. Given the context of Stranger Things, a show that cherrypicks the iconic stuff from that time period in which it was set, it seems like a missed opportunity. And speaking of context...

* Choosing the soundtrack for a show like Stranger Things isn't just about what was a big hit at the time, it's also taking modern audiences into consideration. And it's hard to imagine any 80s themed show without SOME Bowie in it, IMO. He was a big star before the 80s, he was a big star during the 80s and now he's an icon. Obviously I'm biased because I'm a fan, but inclusion seems like a given to me.

Yes to all of it! He was big in 80s. And Let's Dance could be fun in a show for example

I do not care enough for Stranger Things though
