At least you realize you've taken it too far.

I've had a bad reaction to canon developments before. I just had to take a deep breath and remind myself that they are all fictional characters and I can imagine them being however I want. Also I allowed myself to vent about it to my friends, just not to get wanky in public.

Though I'm sure you've tried that.

I have tried. But you know what, writing the secret in and of itself was therapeutic, as is seeing other people's suggestions and ability to relate (even on a smaller more normal scale)

I heard a really nice quote from a fandom person once that totally helped concerning ships that were canon, so maybe it will help you? I suck so I can't remember who said it, or the exact words, but it was basically;

"The pairings in the show are just the preferences of the author in that universe, just like how a fanfic writer would choose to write about their favourite pairing."

It seems to me that what you were reacting to was less what actually happened in canon and more anticipation of the fallout in fandom. Since there had already been trolling, I would imagine you'd be worried that the shippers of the canon ship would become rather insufferable. I've been in situations like that, so I can understand that reaction.

However, at some point you just have to weather the bashing and hold your head up and hope that their bad behavior will out. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, but in the meantime you will have continued to have a nice time in your own way.

It sounds to me like, you probably need to take a step back and maybe take a break, I find that helps when I become to wrapped up in things where I start having thoughts and behaviors that make me uncomfortable. Getting some distance for a bit is probably the best thing to do. If a pairing makes you want to vomit that is a huge sign of overinvestment and isn't healthy.

That said, if the fandom you are talking about is the one that I am thinking of, it does go both ways and the non-canon side gave just as much as they got and there are probably people on the other side that feel the exact way that you do.

Edit: and seeing from your comment, it is not what I was thinking of so disregard the second paragraph.

I know how it is to react horribly to something fandom-related. Especially when it's something I KNOW is not worth getting upset about, but I feel sick over it anyway...I haven't actually vomited, but still, I've felt a bit sick.

Why does this secret make me think of Sam/Ruby? If, by any chance, that's the pairing, for what it's worth it made me pretty nauseated, too, lol. Any chance that you were suffering from a little stomach ailment at the time and just didn't realize it? True story: the X-Files episode 'Home' actually made me throw up and I thought that was so weird because I don't normally get that queasy over things like that...turned out I was pregnant, I just hadn't realized it yet. :)

also, on a more serious note, holy crap, anon o_O; i dunno, when i was reading jane eyre, the moment when edward rochester flings himself on the sofa and cries like a baby gave me a stomachache, so you're not alone! (although it's not really on the same scale.) the fact that this is so atypical of your normal attitude in/towards your fandom makes me wonder if you were just having a really bad day/were already queasy and this just tipped you over. whether or not that's the case, i hope you feel better ^^; and if you really can't get it off your mind, you can always write an essay and explicate all the reasons for your feelings on the development. so long as you keep a level tone, you'll probably get some good convos out of it to boot.

Sweetie, I had exactly the same reaction to Sam/Ruby in Supernatural. Pretty much to the letter. She jumped on him and I started running for the bathroom. And, to make things worse, my best friend called me (and she is a Sam/Ruby shipper) and laughed down the phone line. (It probably goes without saying that I hung up on her).

So yeah, I've always considered myself a 'sane' fangirl too, so all I could really do was grin and bear it, and start looking for new fandoms to get into, where there weren't characters I utterly detested.

Sorry I'm not much help to you, but at least you know you're not alone!
