It's based on Secret Insider Knowledge (tm).

But honestly even if you just follow AO3 vols' public statements you'll see us marvelling about how nice people are when the site is down. Yes there's a certain amount of theatrical moaning about how people rely on us and how will they live, but we don't get anything like the level of like, threats and personal insults you'd expect when the site is down. (especially given what happens when we dare ask for money!)
