Oh man, I relate to this so hard. I never went so far as to be one of those people that insists that a pairing MUST be 50/50 switch or it's unrealistic or whatever, but I pretty much never had a preference and would enjoy it in any fashion.

But I have a pairing now that for some reason I am SUPER strict about, haha. I'm curious what yours is! Mine is Noctis/Prompto from FFXV, and yeah... I can't stand top!(dom!)Prompto stuff at all (in any pairing with him), and I don't particularly care for bottom!Noct stuff either, so it's a perfect storm. It makes the most sense for me in-character for them? Noct already acts like he owns Prompto lmao.

Yeaaaah, Prompto is definitely a sub, imho. I can't imagine him topping anybody. Though maybe in a "he tries one time and then he and his partner can't keep going because they're laughing too hard" kind of way.

Right?? I keep seeing it, along with this snub-nosed "you're FETISHIZING if you don't have them 50/50" and it's like... have you ever met an actual gay man in real life?? So much of the gay scene is built around being a top or a bottom lmfao. Like obviously it's not all RuPaul's Drag Race out there but the absolute majority of gay men I know heavily, heavily favor one role over the other.

The kicker for the 'you're fetishizing if you don't write them switching' thing for me is that in one of my fandoms the person yelling this... only ever wrote one half bottoming and was annoyed that a lot of people had changed to writing the other guy bottoming so she got mad and made a long twitter screed about how that was 'harmful to real gay men' to try and guilt people into writing her preference again. It was funny as fuck.

I think I'm close to 50/50 in top/bottom preferences, and I know others who are. I think there is this thing where often friend groups cluster that way. But with kink dynamics, I can Dom, not sub. I don't know why it is that way, but it is.

Lmao right? Idk who told that lie the first time but it is a lie, like sure verse gay men absolutely exist but most gay guys have a heavy preference and will rarely deviate from that. By all means write a ship switching because variety is fun or what have you, but it's not more 'correct' to depict men switching than it is women who can spontaneously orgasm from having a dick touch their pussy.
