And why do you think that particular configuration is your preference? Obviously you don't have to explain if you don't want to. You don't need a reason to like what you like. But if you want to talk about it then please do!

Dean/Cas for me just because I think it's hotter.

See, I see Dean never wanting to go back to topping once he's bottomed for Cas... but I can respect the reverse, they both deserve a good time regardless.

I've always wondered which is the more popular configuration for this pairing? I'm sure I'd end up with a preference, if I got into Destiel, but it's not a ship where an obvious preference jumps out at me immediately.

From the perspective of someone whose only seen four seasons and has a casual interest, I guess I probably lean towards bottom Cas, mainly because the idea of being in a relationship in which you are fucking an actual angel is just fantastically interesting, IMO. More interesting, to me, than being fucked by an actual angel. But IDK, that's mostly just a surface read.

In FFXIV, I'm kind of frothing at the mouth over (male)Azem/Hythlodaeus/Hades, which fortunately is a decently popular ship, especially for being a throuple!

My preferred configuration isn't as noticeable out there, though, lmao. To be fair, I haven't seen a lot of porn of all three of them, but I feel like I consistently see both Hyth and Hades topping Azem, and Hyth topping Hades-- which is fine tbh, I don't mind that. But my preference is for top!Azem/switch!Hyth/bottom!Hades.

Like Hades is a consummate fussy bottom lmao. I'll die on that hill. Hyth I'm defo more flexible on, and he'd for sure top Azem too sometimes (while Azem's being a total snot about it to rile him up), but I really like to see him totally brought to heel by Azem too. I feel like I rarely see a proper bottom!Hyth, and the few times I do it's to Hades, which I can't make gel since Hades is SUCH A BOTTOM.

Daxter/Jak. Why? Hell if I know, I'm just straight-up monsterfucker trash with a kink for little scrappy dudes leading bigger stoic dudes.

You. I like you.

Melkor/Sauron. Just because I can't see Melkor being willing to bottom that much. He'd see it as being vulnerable. Occasionally he will, but mostly he tops.

I mostly want Kylo/Hux with dominant Hux, but I tend to prefer bottom Kylo and top Hux as well just because it feels more in character and also because Kylo is just hotter as a bottom.

I prefer bottom!Urianger for Thancred/Urianger and it is uh... disappointingly rare in that fandom :(.

Azem/Hyth/Hades anon from above:

This is a good one, yeah. I like that pairing a lot, and I don't have a strong preference for top/bottom, but bottom!Urianger really is vanishingly rare. It's so weird. If anything I feel like Urianger would lean to bottom. Thancred seems like the "generous lover" type, haha.

I prefer Top!Harry and Bottom!Draco. For me, bottoming is a lot more vulnerable than topping. Not saying it’s inherently vulnerable for everyone, but for me it is. And Draco was a cruel bully to Harry pretty much the whole time they were in school, and Harry was, for the most part, stuck in a defensive position of waiting for Draco to try to hurt him. So it just rubs me the wrong way when Draco mainly tops (especially when they first get together), because I’m really not interested in seeing Harry be the more vulnerable one, or the more passive one, in their intimate relationship.

Whereas having Draco not just get fucked by Harry, but be needy and gagging for it, is such a delicious reversal, IMO. And I love that when Draco is the one in a vulnerable position, Harry’s course of action is to pleasure him. I just like the way that contrasts their childhood dynamic of Harry being vulnerable and Draco using it to hurt him.

It’s more complicated than just this^, but this is a significant part of it for me.

I also prefer Top!John and Bottom!Sherlock. Sherlock is so domineering so much of the time--but in such a bratty way, and John is unassuming and undemanding and largely content to be helpful. And what I love is seeing a bit of a reversal of that in their intimate relationship, with John as a bit of a soft Dom and Sherlock being shocked (and at first mortified) to discover that he really, really likes when John takes control.

I also just feel like Sherlock has huge, unaddressed issues with self-control. He’s unhealthily obsessed with self-control, and he tells himself that he has great control over himself, when in reality he’s actually incredibly impulsive and neurotic and not self-controlled at all. Therefore I love the idea of him as repressed sub.

And personally I like my subs as bottoms and my Doms and tops--ergo, bottom!Sherlock and top!John.

Ooh, man, you are speaking my language re: Sherlock. That's 100% how I feel about them too. One of my favorite thoughts was John, once getting over the fluster of the whole situation, being a creative and really apt dom lol. Like incorporating both sensory deprivation and overstimulation at the right moments to keep Sherlock's head empty, to give that brain some rest.

It wouldn't even necessarily be 100% sexual (though I imagine there'd be a good deal of that too), it'd be like daily care.

For Stucky, I do prefer bottom Bucky. Though I can enjoy bottom Steve.

I've actually just been talking about this with a friend over the last couple days. Almost every ship I have is technically a pair of switches, but there are definitely some that are WAY less switchy.

With my main OTP, Sydney nearly always tops Hardin because he goes around non-sexually dominating the crap out of everyone for the entirety of the game, pretty much. It's just canon, Sydney tops everyone IMO. (Unless he orchestrates for them to top him. Which I've had him do.)

And way back in the Yami no Matsuei days, Hisoka always topped Tsuzuki because Tsuzuki was 1: worried (probably unnecessarily) that he might trigger some sort of traumatic response in Hisoka if he topped due to the (canon) sexual assault in his past, 2: honestly the biggest freaking uke regardless.

Oh yeah, and in From Eroica With Love: Dorian TOTALLY tops Klaus. It might seem backwards based solely on their personalities, but if you really consider their dynamic...

I'm honestly still trying to figure out who normally tops in my current semi-crack ship obsession. It absolutely could go either way. Maybe they're both 100% switch.

Definitely agree with you re: Hisoka and Tsuzuki. Honestly, I can’t see Tsuzuki topping anybody.

I'm pretty sure that Keith is an affectionate, enthusiastic, and playful top who takes very good care of Yuri.

I just can't care. I like 'em to switch - everybody, all the time! I know some people in RL have preferences and whatnot, but in my ficcish 'verse, everybody is a switch and happy about it. :D

All of them. As an ace, I'm interested in certain types of relationship dynamics. Changing that up just makes me bored.

In some of my ships, I like a bit of role-reversal, with the character who’s a Dom/top in the streets being the sub/bottom in the sheets.

But then other times I just double down and go with the obvious. Case in point:

top!Tony and bottom!Peter (MCU)
top!Harvey and bottom!Mike (Suits)

In that case it’s because I’m into the mentor/mentee dynamic, as well as a dynamic that’s like, a worldly service!Dom who exudes effortless power and confidence but also has a lot of hidden self-loathing (Tony and—to a lesser extent—Harvey) and a very eager, heart-of-gold sub who adores the Dom with every atom in their body, but also has an indomitable inner strength and will give push-back when it’s called for (Peter and—to a lesser extent—Mike). Plus I love the conflicting impulses of the Dom/top, who genuinely and sincerely wants to nurture and protect the sub/bottom...but also very much wants to possess them completely and fuck them senseless. Like, they want to give the bottom the world, for no reason except that the bottom deserves it. But they also want to give the bottom their dick. A lot. And meanwhile the bottom is practically shaking with want, like a dog looking at a stack of hamburgers that’s right there but it can’t have them--like, “I would literally get off in seconds on anything you wanted to do to me. A n y t h i n g.”

Starker is this dynamic to a T, while Marvey is a less quintessential iteration, but in both cases this general dynamic is basically what I'm there for.

L as a top and Light as a bottom from Death Note.
And it sucks because for some reason the vast majority of fics has Light topping while L gets woobiefied - the injustice!

For me, my main ones are Kylo/Hux with Kylo on top but Hux topping from the bottom.

And Megumi/Gojo with Megumi topping because I can only see Gojo as a spoiled bratty bottom but most of fandom disagrees and has Gojo as this super alpha toppy-top. I made a secret about that a while back, too.
