I finally caught COVID after a long time of escaping it, so that sucks. I only felt like dying for a couple of days, at least, and from there it was just like a moderate cold, which was pretty livable.

Thank GOD I'm salaried at my job and I work for amazing people, so we got the schedule all restructured to let me recuperate-- and I've finally tested negative today, am feeling 100% better, and am going back to work tomorrow.

But staying home for a week has been so nice. I've gotten to spend so much more time with my wife than usual, got caught up on sleep and even got some writing done. I know I gotta get back out there, but I'm so bummed out about it. :(

As the commenter just below you, I'm pleased to know it gets better! And I'm glad you were able to find some positivity in the downtime.

I avoided it this whole time until around three weeks ago. I've definitely had worse colds but the tiredness is NO joke. I felt like no amount of sleep was enough. I was able to work from home for the five days I tested positive but I was only able to do any work in short bursts. When I returned to my place of work, I felt like I was walking through water for about a further week.

Basically, even if you're feeling physically better be kind to yourself mentally. I don't think I was. I think I felt like I needed to rush back due to mild symptoms etc. It really does wipe you out and it's ok to take it easier for a few days.

Thank you for this, honestly. I do have a tendency to push myself, especially since I feel a bit guilty for taking so much time off. Thankfully I'm sure my coworkers will keep an eye on me as well, so I should be good.

I found most of the symptoms to be just like a brief cold, but the diarrhea was an unpleasant surprise and the tiredness lasted at least a week beyond the other symptoms. This was just a few weeks ago for me, too. I had my third shot of Pfizer in November. No idea what role that played in leaving me vulnerable but making it not as bad as it could have been. People I know who got sick before the vaccines seemed to have been miserably sick for longer.

Glad you're feeling better, nonny! We finally got caught by it a few weeks ago too, and like you my boss was super accommodating and scheduled cover for the week. My partner on the other hand had his boss pushing to get him back in to work regardless because they were short-staffed, which, uh, didn't go down great with me.

It always sucks going back after time off, so I feel you. The way I looked at it was at some point in the future, I'll get to have actual lovely scheduled time off where I don't feel like garbage, and it'll be way more enjoyable. Take it steady tomorrow just to be safe, the fatigue can still hang around for a while.

I know the feeling. I had it a couple months ago, and it was so frustrating getting it after having done everything I could to escape it for so long :/.

But yeah, a really shitty cold, that pretty much sums up how it felt for me, too. And I'm fully vaccinated. I truly can't begin to imagine how much more miserable those who got it and who aren't fully vaccinated, or not vaccinated at all, must've felt.

I'm glad that your workplace takes such good care of its employees, at least, so that you were able to take the necessary time off you needed to recover. And I'm glad to hear you're feeling better now, too :).

But heh, yeah, I totally understand your wanting to just continue staying home, too. It is though to get back out there after time away from work, isn't it? Hopefully at least you'll be able to ease back into your job well enough and everything.
