I stopped watching after season 2 for the fucking annoying romances with the younger kids. (It was also annoying with the older kids but at least they got to interact with each other in other ways too.) Pleased that they have more than one queer character because if all the straight teens are into romance so should the queer teens, but I'm not going back to watch more. GIFs will have to do!

Yeah, I had a lot of problems with season two and one of them was all this child romances. Oh no, boys can't interact with girls without ~looove~
I would like more grown up queer characters, but I guess all this icky dying from AIDS grown-ups are not fun (sarcasm)

Can I ask why the teen romances bothered you? Not picking a fight, just genuinely curious (because they didn't bother me, but nor did I really care about who was with whom, though the jealousy etc was very age appropriate from what I remember of being that age so it fit well imo).

AYRT I guess I was the opposite at that age and wouldn't have known romantic feelings if they hit me with a hammer. And I really was about the age of those kids in the early 80s so that made it a lot more personal than usual young teen stuff I can easily avoid.

Ah, fair enough. The Lucas/Dustin/Max thing hit with me because my best friend and I liked the same guy in grade 7 and because she was the prettier/more out-going person he ended up dating her and I was honestly more bitter that I had to find out from a mutual friend than I was that he chose her? Like, it was definitely just a crush so I wasn't invested but it hurt to get cut out like that.

I kind of like that even with all of the everything that is going on in the show that interpersonal relationships/growing up/bullying/etc all of that is still getting addressed and shown, but I can also understand that people aren't here for that and it's cool.

Same, to me they felt very accurate to what I remember from being that age too. That was about the age when the kids in my grade started noticing the opposite sex and getting crushes/dating.

I find the character of Mike Wheeler really irritating.

I also don't like the way that the show writes romances in general. It's great at dealing with platonic relationships, but romantic relationships, not so much - it all feels very show not tell, where either the characters have to constantly repeat that they're In Love, or a secondary character has to constantly yell at the characters about how they're In Love.

Oh, that too. Very annoying and poorly done, especially the secondary characters shipping them!
