What I'm really not looking forward to is the inevitable screeching fallout when they don't get together/they aren't endgame. It's 100% just going to be "I love you" -> <- "I love you too but like a friend/brother, I don't want this to be weird, are we cool" followed by some light gay angst and then nothing. Maybe if we're really unlucky they'll write in a completely random new character to be his boyfriend?

People are gonna go nuclear and call it queerbaiting, though.

I'm actually missing the incompatible sexuality plots. All the new queer rep has the gay character crush immediately on the only other character who happens to be gay/bi. It's not realistic and comes with the unfortunate subtext that if you're a gay kid you will instinctively know who else is gay, so you don't have to worry about them rejecting you for THAT reason. Ha, if only.
