(Anonymous) 2022-07-23 09:49 am (UTC)(link)I honestly took me like forever to actually get into the fandom side of HP so I'm basically completely oblivious pretty much, sorry 'bout that!;;
While I definitely agree Snape is a disgusting flaming bog filled with horse-shit, I thought it was actually more common that people (definitely the more vocal ones at least) absolutely believed he did no wrong, and like JK herself wrote, 'he was the greatest hero who ever heroed that ever existed ever' or whatever shit- so since OP could totally troll the TERF's who still think that way.
(and while I see where you're coming from, I wouldn't call it transphobic in any way. Just because an interpretation fits within a negative trope doesn't mean that they mean it to be negative? That'd imply no queer individual could ever be a villain and/or anti-hero/jaywalker at all ever. Which is extremely restrictive and incredibly limiting when perceiving or creating a character- ntm it makes for things to become predictable and boring if everyone was expected to follow hard rules with their creative ventures.
Sorry, this makes no sense and is a complete mess, just ignore it.)

(Anonymous) 2022-07-24 01:02 am (UTC)(link)I guess that's just the sad fact of reality, huh. It's so stupid, since it's such a double edged sword too- since it's all about perception in the end for the most part.
Like, tbh, I'm not immediately familiar with any prime examples of Evil Queer off the top of my head. Not in canon at least. So that's definitely biasing my thoughts when it comes to the other side of the blade I mentioned. 'Cause unlike casting and writing a character based on racial stereotypes, I'm not entirely certain how immediately recognizable how queer a character is unless distinctly stated? And because there are so many identities and sexualities it's more disconnected since you'd have to make the association/think about it first? idk tbh, but I'd like to believe that with any ounce of thought in between sight and perception a lot of people won't have that associated instinct to see queer as bad just because they grew up with it queer people being portrayed as such on TV.
My thought is that it can majorly backfire to strive towards a goal where no queer representation should be portrayed as villainous. If only because, as I mentioned with Snape, that depending on the person hero and villain often overlap and intercede each other- oftentimes unintentionally. The popularity of the character matters a lot too. Disliking a hero is much more common than disliking a villain I find, so people will often perceive things +/- based on their interests over their conscience.
My major worry is that people really just don't like to be told what to do, or how to think. So attempting to regulate peoples opinions or feeling especially in a fandom setting, even with good intentions will often be face with anger and spite. Like how the secret is literally about loudly headcanoning a character as trans only to make transphobic people upset/uncomfortable. The whole shebang is most definitely not helping whatsoever in the cause to change peoples minds about their smallmindedness, so in fandom it's not progressive at all I feel to designate who should be allowed to be headcanoned as queer/trans or not because the people seeing it (as per the secrets situation) aren't meant to be enlightened, the intention is to make them mad and feel those bad vibes they'll later associate with people irl... or something??
idk, sorry again about the wall of text and the late response! I wrote half of it last night and tried to finish it today and ended up with this nonsense lol
