I have the most horrible Lord of the Rings secret. I loved the Tom Bombadill segment. Eru have mercy upon me.

Tom Bombadil is incredible once you realize everything he says, even when not "singing," is in the same verse rhythm. Every fucking line of dialogue is rhythmic, matching the song structure of his "ho Tom Bombadil, Tom Bombadillo" rhythm. the only one that isn't is one brief exclamation when Frodo puts on the Ring to fuck with him. There's definitely something deeper here that Tolkien never expounded on that needs to be acknowledged as a level of lingistic brilliance that most casual readers might not grasp. It would never work in a visual adaptation but it still deserves mad props.

I like the Tom Bombildil section too TBH. A nice break from all the dark tasks and heavy walking/fighting. Though, I agree that he wasn't needed in the films.
