I got a bottle of my favourite rum for my birthday two years ago and I treasure it greatly but I always wanted to try Kraken, although I heard it's a bit too strongly spiced for some tastes.

my suggestion is to have it in a 1:1 cocktail like rum and coke before trying it neat, that's a good way to ease yourself into the flavor and gauge whether you like it. cocktails that are more like 2:1 or 3:1 mixer-to-rum or that add other liquors make it hard to gauge the taste.

it is *very* spiced, but I prefer it to less robust rums like Captain or even Sailor Jerry (high alcohol content, less spice). but then, I'm the kind of guy who wants to take a vacation to the islands just to sample all the rum straight out of the factory.

I'm more prone to drinking rum straight, I'm just not a huge fan of spiced rums.
