Agreed. Is it ever established that wielding the stones requites strength or intelligence? I mean, it obviously requires immense strength in order to wield them and not die, but besides the whole it-kills-you bit, couldn't basically anyone wield them--provided said person had a unifying device such as the gauntlet?

In which case the real argument is that Tony was the only one with the tech skills to be able to make a gauntlet in a pinch, and there's no way he would've let Steve take on the responsibility of using it unless it was impossible for him to do it himself.

Not that you couldn't find a way around that, you definitely could. I have no horse in this race, I'm just thinking out loud.
