Oh gosh you're right! Well if Chinese TV is racist/colorist, then that means it's ok!

(Anonymous) 2022-07-27 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
So now you think Chinese are racist. The pot calling the kettle black, I see.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-27 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

Chinese media and many many Chinese people are definitely colorist af. Also you're embarrassing pls stop.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-27 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt
You just don't like Chinese definition of beauty, that's all. At least they don't have a history of genocide of the native population, sl*very and segreagation like some other country I can name. So pot, kettle. I'm asuming you're from US.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-27 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
They don't have a history of any of that, eh? Oh, honey.
dantesspirit: (HAHAHA No.)

At least they don't have a history of genocide of the native population, sl*very and segreagation like some other country I can name.

The Ughyurs called (or would if they weren't being killed or sent to camps), they said you're wrong.

The African Kunluns also would have called, but well, they can't, having been slaves in China in the 7th Cent. after all.

The victims of the 1645 Sichuan massacre that depopulated the region also disagree with you. As do the victims of the 1221-1264 massacre.

The Dzungar genocide in 1755-1757 also disagrees with you.

Tibet also disagrees, vehemently.

In other words, you are wrong. Do better.

Thank you. Some people are so ignorant I can see why it's a blessing lol.

And those are just a *handful* of the numerous massacres, etc, that China has had over the centuries.

Not that the US is any better, it's just so deliberately misleading to claim China, who had *Mao* for crying out loud, was exempt from horrific acts.

This is a perfect example as to how badly we teach world history.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-27 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT - Yeah, exactly, you're so right. It's as they say, the victors tell us the stories and it's always from their POV. Ie. "my violence was fair, it wasn't even that violent"

(Anonymous) 2022-07-27 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Like US recent bombings...

(Anonymous) 2022-07-28 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Omg learn some history. All those and more for literally millenia.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-27 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Chinese colorism is much more of a class thing than a racism thing.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-27 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Within China it is indeed a class thing, but in a global context it's inevitably a racism thing.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-27 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but this is explicitly about Chinese media. You don't get to re-interpret an issue from a foreign country just because it counts as a different 'ism in your part of the world.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-27 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You say as if it isn't the same elsewhere lol. In some it's because dark skinned people work/ed a lot in the sun and get lowly paid ie slavery and in others it's because dark skinned people's ancestors were trafficked ie slaved and so dark skin is Bad ... because poor people are bad (ie because they can get violent to meet their fucking basic needs) lol

(Anonymous) 2022-07-27 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a difference between colorism based on class and wealth and racism based on people having a different ethnicity. Are they similar in nature? Do they overlap sometimes? Yes. But it's not the same issue. Racism also doesn't always mean colorism or prejudice based on skin colour. It's much more complex.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-28 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
But for people who suffer with both what the fuck does this matter?
Those people were sad. They have EVERY right to.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-28 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
They have both. Believe it or not, China also has an immigrant population. For those with darker skin, racism and classism both come into play to dictate the discrimination they receive in China.

There’s also just regular old racism you’d recognize anywhere: you don’t want to hear older Chinese people give their opinions on black people in the US, believe me.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-28 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
And they also discriminate against white people in a lot of Asian countries. And many black people are racist towards Asians. Its almost as if no country/ethnicity is perfect.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-28 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Goalpost moving now, are we? Seriously, which Chinese actor was hot enough to fry your brain to this extent?

(Anonymous) 2022-07-28 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol are you daft? I AM saying they absolutely are being racist, just that colorism in China IS primarily classist. Is it also racist in some cases? Absolutely. But classism is definitely the biggest issue in a country with this much poverty.
