I always assumed the 00#'s were just a title/rank tbh, you get to know at least one or two of them in the previous films, I never really considered them just moving on to the next number, but having the name Bond tied to 007 is kinda ridiculous imo. Like there's a lot of suspension of belief when it comes to these movies so trying to make any sort of logically timeline is so silly to me.

I'm sure they'll probably just pull a Mass Effect type revival where they recover his body and make a new one with the same conscience to explain the new look if they really wanted to try to save the timeline- or more likely, just handwave it and never mention the whole thing with the explosion/pretend he was 100% fine or whatever, lol.

FWIW this would more or less be my preferred outcome - literally don't even mention it or reference it at all, don't put any effort into explaining it, just make a new James Bond movie. if people complain about continuity, ignore them.
