Re: OP
(Anonymous) 2022-07-29 06:35 am (UTC)(link)Huh. I mean at first I was just thinking that's just what god does. Creating trials and tribulations just to see if people would listen, smiting people just because he can. Like Cain killing Abel, idk, in this case it seems to try and attempt to make it seem less like blatant murder? More pleasant to youthful eyes I guess would be the point?
The second act is basically an emphasis of that? Like god tried to murder the world with Noah and the ark in the first place(?) so punishing those who didn't converge to his commands was just as expected. Even though she was completely innocent in the ordeal, it wasn't about her as an individual (although it definitely follows the backwater idea that blood carries what came before it; the history of royals for example) just that Noah's descendant disobeyed? Obviously bad interpretations and poor variations, especially to suit some sort of narrative, always rubs the wrong way. Particularly in the realm of religion where interpretation is key to each ones faith.
Like, on an off note, I legit thought Cain was supposed to be the unfortunately tasked good guy until I looked it up just now, tbh. (I know fuck all about the bible, obviously/apparently;;) So I can see why giving him an out would be unsavoury for sure. (for some reason Cain defending some hidden city does ring a bell? in some way?? idk??) I was very bad at school, fyi;;
The whole deal with god being a dick about choosing Abel's offering over Cain's and then bitching about why Cain is sad about it is highly disputed, as far as I've found. Especially by the Christians (and everyone apparently;;) who over the years dissociated themselves from their Genesis originated background to pick and choose what should be taken as truth or interpretation. Like I've been reading off this link (so I'm not sure how accurate I am about it?) to remind me of what I was taught growing up basically so far:
https://www.thetorah.com/article/why-did-cain-kill-abel
Chances are maybe that it was a just verified musical the higher-ups approved of some time in the past and he wasn't given much option/a choice at all to pick from according to the school council.
(idk, sorry, I shouldn't say any of this, it's all interpretation and I definitely have a chip on my shoulder given my youth. but I typed it all, and a bit drunk, and I truly do not mean to offend!!)
