Having spent the last week searching for fics from fandoms that pre-date AO3, fuck off, OP. So many fics have been lost to website updates that broke links and Geocities being taken down and Hyperboards deleting half of their message boards and ff.net/LJ purges. It's incredibly sad and frustrating.

I'm glad that there's a site like AO3 to archive fics (and the hard work and comments/kudos of authors) for future generations.

I stan AO3. Why wouldn't I? It's awesome. It has vastly improved my fic-reading experience, and has also improved my fic-writing experience. I am grateful for its existence basically every time I use it, which is several times a week, minimum. It is incredibly well-designed, head-spinningly successful, and it's a non-profit which is pretty damn cool. I have no idea why I would ever hesitate to say AO3 is fucking dope, and that it makes me proud to be part of fandom because fans made that and, once again for the people in the back, it is fucking dope.

it's the nature of current internet discourse: things are either 'THE BEST EVER!!!' or 'UTTER TRASH!!' with no in between, things can't be just fine or a tool we use. so people stan these sites like they're paid to because that's how people on the internet act atm.

it's annoying but hopefully it'll fade out in a few years when the new 'internet personality' trend takes over.

I didn't even realize people did until me and a friend were talking about sites we used and have used in the past, got onto Ao3 and how we mostly liked it but felt the tagging system could do with a lot of improvements(this was before the wider changes they'd made to them) and some random person came into our conversation and starting yelling at us for having any issue with the site at all. It was bizarre.

I still prefer Ao3 to other sites I've used atm, but I'm not going to die on a hill defending it or tell other people to use it if they don't want to. It's just a website.

Why do we keep having this as a secret? I'm baffled as to why anyone even CARES this much. I like AO3 - a lot. FFN never seemed very intuitive to me, and you can't comment there without an account and they're not doing accounts anymore, so there's no way to tell an author you liked their stuff.

But I DO NOT CARE what 'you' like, or don't like, or use, or don't use, even if you're ranting about how horrible (site) is, it's just....who cares? It's like arguing about what dish soap you use. At *best* it's amusing to see someone frothing at the mouth about stuff that's so trivial, at worst it's weird to see someone frothing at the mouth about stuff that's so trivial.

Generally I think that the world has so many complaints as it is that he isn't gonna run outta fodder any time soon;; But in actuality I really don't think it'll be much of a problem. As writers tend to have a stock of content available due to the flux of staying in tune with the weekly headlines, so even if his mental focus improves/shifts with the Popeye assignment enough wit should be available in the mean time... I think.
