(Anonymous) 2022-07-30 02:47 am (UTC)(link)THEN apparently there's more fics of his other older fictional characters that are listed under RPF (some that would come under Markiplier TV, but also pre-dating that web episode) - which is even more odd to me while at the same time is sort of understandable since there are fics with Markiplier shipped with his own characters; but the ones that are strictly his fictional characters are listed under RPF (specifically Youtube RPF).
On top of that I really can't stand RPF - not that I go out my way to be a dick to anyone into it because I do believe in the 'my kink not your kink' ideology in fandom, but fuck its still a butt ache to sort out the fictional stuff from the RPF stuff that's listed under the RPF category.
Also also (because I'm not done ranting lol); the absolute most popular ship across the board is Markiplier/Jacksepticeye which is a blurry line between RPF AND fictional characters since they did a crossover special with their alter egos that technically falls under the Markiplier TV category - but I absolutely have zero interest in looking into Jacksepticeye's fictional character lore, but god its everywhere. I can just about put up with the fictional stuff - but then there's the RPF stuff that come up and goes into my NOPE of NOTPs. Thankfully I'm living in the era of AO3 that has the Exclude Tags filter which gets used a lot for these deep dives into this side of Markiplier fanfiction.
But the thing is that there's a lot of the fics I'm looking for in this section of AO3 - particularly for a character who officially has like 1 minute of official lore (The Host who was almost part of another youtube series called Danger in Fiction and had a moment in Markiplier TV). Its maddening that its listed under Real people fiction - but I will give AO3 this, I have learned more about the search function and how it works than any other fandom I have ever been a part of.
(I'm sorry for the long ass comment OP - I have no friends and everybody else in this fandom are either younger than me or are on Discord; so I took advantage for the chance to petty rant)

(And I'm amused by your Discord comment, because the rarepair I mentioned above has a Discord dedicated to them and I'm really tempted to join in because I would love to have a place to talk about them, but at the same time I usually lurk around fandom places and the idea of actually joining in on the discussion feels kind of daunting, not to mention I have no idea how Discord works.)

I like discussions about my fandoms but everyone in Discord seems like they are friends already or that you are supposed to talk about yourself first. And I don't want to. I want to discuss my otp and MAYBE then get some friends or not.

That's exactly what makes me nervous about joining! I don't know where it came from, but I had the impression it was pretty clique-y, and this comment seems to reinforce that. I agree with you, I want to discuss my OTP, not myself. And the idea of joining something in the middle where everyone else already knows each other and I'm the outsider just doesn't sound fun at all.

I've lurked in a huge discord fandom group for a while. And it seemed like all people who were not lurkers like me have been friends for some time. They had some noticeable unwritten rules and quirks.
(also despite absolutely brilliant mods this discord had some enormous drama)
