Agreed. Lots of tv shows/movies made here in the states that are supposed to be "omg look! gay!" are really just two dudes with either no chemistry, or no real on screen relationship, kissing on screen for half a second. The Untamed is definitely the minimum standard.

Agreed, and like you said, not even because it's a particularly wonderful example, but I think it has a lot to do with the intention going in. The cast and crew weren't allowed to make it explicitly gay, but they went into it intending to play it that way anyway, and the end result is all the feeling without needing the words. I think a lot of storytelling these days could benefit from that kind of focus, especially when compared to tokenization.

Fucking this- like actually though... I just hate romance as a necessity in general, so when a character exist simply to fulfil that roll, I particularly despise it. You see so many characters that live their lives as is, but are assumed to be heteronormative just because they don't immediately have a queer relationship who's only purpose it to be representative. I hate it because any format of relationships have genuinely become defined as sexual these days, when interaction be it romantic or not are so much more than that, and have so many layers that are simple gone in the favour of adding a sex scene here or a gang bang there for nothing more than protocol or affiliation.
Like romance, in my eyes, is absolutely unnecessary when developing a plotline. Wasting screen time for no other purpose than to proclaim that a relationship is explicit is especially boring. I can't help but find it particularly irksome when they do it to establish a characters sexuality. Like, if it has no connection to the storyline and has no purpose/doesn't flow with the characters growth- just don't bother. To me, sexuality is such an infinitesimal perception to a persons everyday life, and it should be reflected as such in every and all media. (like YA/youth focused media often lasts as well as it does because it actually gives someone something to appreciate and consider. the 7 episodes format that people are meant to work with these days aren't filled with 4/7 episodes being required to be about relationship drama rather than the plot or the character growth.)

I am in a small fandom and into an even smaller ship

There's literally only two english-speaking people producing any kind of content for it, and one of them is me.
I follow the other one because how couldn't I? But I'm starting to grow resentful of
them. I just don't like their interpretation of the ship and characters' dynamic.
They heavily woobify the half of the ship I personally see as the more dominant one, and I honestly believe their interpretation is quite OOC, seeing as this character is actually pretty driven and charismatic in canon, whereas they portray it as an almost helpless, passive punching bag.

In any other circumstance I wouldn't care. That's their headcanon and if they are having fun it is none of my business... The problem is that because they have a larger following than me, their headcanons are bleeding over to other people who are into the
ship, and some of these shared fans now talk to me and engage with my stuff in a way that makes it clear they are on board with the other person's woobifical headcanons, and it is really starting to grind my gears.

The worst part is that their content contribution to this ship is replying to people messages about it, and half-baked posts "I had this plot bunny I will do nothing with", whereas I am the one sitting here actively writing fanfics and drawing art.
All of this just because they happen to have more numbers on that cursed followers counter.
I'm still having fun in my corner and will keep making my stuff as I better see fit, but I can't deny I am growing quite annoyed at people adopting their headcanons left, right and center. Ugh.

And this is why I say that: those of you who don't consider people whom share headcanons, imagines, inserts, meta, memes, fanvideos, fanarts, etc. part of "fandom" are just wrong.
One doesn't have to write fic to participate in fandom and influence other people's headcanons (which in this day and age often means influencing canon too).

Damn! That's really annoying! But it makes sense -- most fandoms tend to have certain head cabins (many of them OOC to different degrees AND villains 9 out if 10 times will become "awww poor thing, no one ever hugged them, they're actually in pain",) that take the fandom by storm/become generally accepted fanon. It seems like the other author is just ticking off the right boxes for people :/

I hope you gain a steady and loyal (if not larger) following.

I know as a reader there are certain takes on characters I try to avoid because it's too out of character. Like Character A is never soft. A take where they show a momentary lapse in their general hard disposition ? Sure, I can buy that. Soft uwu precious prince dark sad boi who only wants to be held? That is a payoff that the author did not work for and even with chapters of A going to therapy, the closest they'd get would be admitting themselves some vulnerability, maybe being a little nice to select other characters. Maybe.

Anyways, keep doing your thing, and I'm not quite sure /where/ you follow them, but is it possible to "mute" their updates? I get wanting to follow them to support them, but just because you follow them doesn't mean you actually have to pay attention to them, ya know? Back on social media, I follow maybe 200 people? I really only stay abreast of about 5-10 people's lives, and half of those maybe I check once every three months or if their feed pops up when I log in.

I know there's a feeling of well I should actually pay attention, etc. But if you're not my friend, or someone who I care about...well. I'll check in every now and then and you'll still keep your follower count. Can't pay attention to you when I need to focus on myself. This sounds messed up maybe, but I've come to a point where I know I need to stop trying to look or compare or allow the space for the mentality of feeling jealous or feeling insecure because I'm not X like someone else. Maybe I'm reading too much into your post and projecting lol

I hope you do have fun though! That's what fandom's for!

I mean you're right that the slave revolt had to happen, but I strongly disagree about Benedict and I don't even like him.

He's cold and a bit too ruthless for my taste but usually his solutions make sense. At least more than Roland's who would bend the knee to Hyzante and allow slavery to happen, which is the worst case scenario in my book. And thing is I usually disagree with Benedict because that's not the way I work, but that doesn't mean that his opinions are immoral or assholish. He probably wants the best for Nozeria as long as Serenoa's House is protected. That doesn't make him an asshole.

I got the golden ending on my first try so lucky me, I guess, but if I hadn't I would have gone with Benedict's solution rather than Frederica's - even though hers is clearly the most moral one - because I really wanted to get rid of Hyzante. I hate all forms of organised religion, especially in video games when it tends to be depicted as a very good way of controlling and enslaving people (in Dragon Age, for instance), so I kinda assumed that taking care of Hyzante was the first step before handling the whole slavery disaster.

On the other hand, I thought that Frederica was too much concerned about her people and wasn't looking at the bigger picture. Revolting would not have saved the Roselles from Hyzante as long as the empire was not utterly destroyed.

So I guess I have a lot of opinions about this game? Then again I really enjoyed Triangle Strategy for the gameplay but I do think that the plot and characters were a bit underwhelming. I love politics in video games, I swear, but even the slavery part didn't piss me off as much as in Dragon Age (I usually play a Dalish mage so yeah) so I wasn't really feeling it, if you know what I mean? Plus I never bought the whole romance between Serenoa (an actual Gary Stu if you ask me) and Frederica. The only characters I liked were Anna, Avlora, and Gustadolph in a nice villain kinda way.
