Kenneth MacAlpin. It is hard to disrespect a man who made a whole country.

I'll admit to a fondness for the various Saxon kings down south of the Rio Tweed too though, before the Bastard came.

Alexander Romanov II. Eleanor Roosevelt. William Wilberforce. Does RBG count as a historical figure? Ida Wells. Victoria Claflin Woodhull, who was fascinating.

Oskar Schindler. He was a flawed man who saved thousands of people.

Date Masamune because he was a madlad. He founded the city of Sendai and championed his people, but also played the long game wisely to make sure he didn't get his ass killed prematurely for backing the wrong shogun. He may or may not have killed his father accidentally while killing the man attempting to kill him. He named his horse the equivalent of "Blackie." He trolled all of his elite rivals though cleverly-worded letters and occasional pranks. He made all of his men dress flamboyantly to the point that it coined a term in Japanese: "Datemono" or Dateotoko, meaning essentially a dandy or a flashy dresser. Dude also definitely fucked everyone and everything. He wrote the Vatican to invite the Pope to visit Japan during a time when Tokugawa was aggressively stamping out chistianity. Mad. Lad.

Louis XIV. Napoleon Bonaparte. They both changed the history of Europe - but not necessarily for the better.

(I swear I'm not French)

Julie D’Aubigny. I'm still waiting on a biopic. Give me it!

Sword fights, arson, kidnapping, being pardoned just so she could sing in the opera, beloved by kings - she's the OG disaster bi.

Marie Antoinette. I have a very weird fascination with her. She was Austrian royalty married off to French royalty at 14, became Queen at 18 and was a scapegoat for the revolution because she was mistakenly quoted as saying “let them eat cake”, which isn’t what she said at all.

I also have fixations on Jeanne d’Arc, Cleopatra and Hatshepsut.
