(Anonymous) 2022-08-06 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)Genshin is popular because the world is colorful and fun to move around in, but the art style is definitely perceived as limited, with constant demand for improved diversity.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-07 05:47 am (UTC)(link)For example, below someone is recommending 'Demon Slayer', which I did not watch, but did read the manga of and so I happen to know it's literally generic Shounen. Not bad and I admit that the art style is cool, but the story is just capital S Shounen.
So even if you promise that actually you have recommendations that are REALLY good, how would I know, you know? That's what I mean about giving up on it.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-07 07:09 am (UTC)(link)The art of the Demon Slayer manga is kinda fun, woodcutty and bright-eyed, but it couldn't make up for the plot. Honestly, do consider coming to an older fan who's still watching because if you can tell me what you like, I'll be good at helping you work out where the gems are hidden these days! It's fine to stop watching if you don't want to, but I get the impression you would if it you weren't kinda frustrated and maybe looking down on younger fans a bit. I just started Yu Yu Hakusho myself and it's like damn, this is where all the stuff I watched as a teenager actually came from, you know? So stands to reason a lot of Gen Z aren't going to know that Demon Slayer is derivative and not a great example of creative use of shonen tropes.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-07 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)I'm actually the person who mentioned the shounen-y happy bright Demon slayer and I'm a millennial lol. I had watched YYH as a kid and did a rewatch about two years ago (literally 20 years later) and it's a great one (one of my faves) that holds up pretty well and got me in my feelings. The two more recent animes I mentioned are quite tropey and have been there/done that in terms of the genre, but I find at least DS to be hmfairky hopeful (I'll admit I watched it during a depressed state and it helped bring me up, which is what I think certain types of shows could and should do).
I stand by Dororo, yes it's a hero's journey type of story, and a few mentioned some other historical dramas. I do think it's useful though to reach back to older fans who've seen more. Also, if you're looking for something kinda sci Fi but not entirely, OP, check out Ergo Proxy.
Thanks for the recs!
