Totally, totally disagree. I love aliens as an explanation for horror. It's great to me.

One point I would make - aliens aren't really an "explanation". They're ultimately just as fantastical and ridiculous as ancient curses. And that's kinda why I like them personally.

I think aliens can work fine as an explanation for horror, it all depends how it's done. Horror and sci-fi aren't really separate genres, or at least they can be very effectively merged.

I don't like narratives that play into the whole "ancient aliens visited us in ancient times and gave us religion and built the pyramids" crap though, as so many people take that bs seriously, and it's bad for people's understanding of human history. And racist.

I prefer having no explanation. Something about not knowing why all the weirdness is happening makes the horror a bit more ominous and lingering.

I'd rather have a good ghost movie with no explanation, than a bad ghost movie that has an explanation.

I’m not really a fan of horror plots, but I like a lot of aesthetics that are mostly associated with horror, so I guess I lean towards explanations. They’re one of the things that tend to make the plot less horror-like.
