Nayrt but one thing that does bother me is how much double standards exist in especially the onlyfans line of work. Like... I've seen it quite a bit that women who keeps pimping out their onlyfans stuff everywhere complain that they're only seen as sex objects and... I mean, yeah, that's what you get paid for? You keep advertising for people to come and buy your porn, what did you expect?

AYRT--I mean, I get weirded out when strangers run into me outside of work and ask me to do job related stuff when I'm buying groceries or walking on the beach or something.

If someone sells sexy videos or whatever that doesn't make it okay to go up to them in a restaurant while they're eating with their kids and ask for a handjob.

It would be weird if they complained about people asking them for sex stuff on their onlyfans, though, for the same reason it would be weird if I complained about people asking me reference questions while I was sitting at the reference desk at work.

I mean, sure, harrassing people outside of work for work related stuff is never cool but it's just a fact it happens. Like artists have to get used to people asking them for art/design for "exposure", someone who really goes all out promoting their onlyfans will get dumbasses creeping on them. I'm not saying it's right, or good. Just that it's to be expected.

So, I don't do sex work. I had the first scenery happen to me, it's bad enough. If the sex work scenario happened to me I would be much more disturbed. It's how I personally feel which is also why I refuse to agree that the levels of exploitation and violence in sex work are as bad as any job.

"Sex work is just work even if it bugs me personally" anon here. I work in a library and I've been propositioned, screamed at, threatened, and cleaned up shit and vomit. I've had coworkers get jumped, spit on, screamed at... I've seen people die and been in buildings on lockdown while we wait for the police. No work with the public or work in general is without risk. Physical work of any kind can destroy your body.

I hope I would never have to do any kind of sex work myself because I would suck (no pun intended) at it and hate it.

But I have no right to decide other adults can't be sex workers because it makes me personally uncomfortable.

... but maybe they would OPT out of it if it was made to seem less romantic or attractive to them or if they really knew what they were getting into, which was my entire point.

Coming up to a professional when they aren't at work and trying to get them to give you their professional attention for free, without an appointment, in an informal setting, is a dick move at the best of times.

Also, sex workers aren't sex objects. Those two things aren't synonymous, nor does either one inherently entail the other.

Do you think your certified massage therapist is a medical object? Do you think the chef who cooks your dinner at a fancy restaurant is a sustenance object? Do you think that comedian you love is an entertainment object?

If a sex worker works with clients, and clients want to treat their sex worker like a sex object as part of the service, and the sex worker is cool with that, that's fine. But the pretense of objectification is part of what's being paid for. It's not part of the sex worker; it's part of the service they provide.

I never said this happening is good. Just to be expected. You can't really expect to perform sex acts for anyone who pays enough and not be objectified. Just like rofessional cooks are constantly expected by people to cook for them outside of work. Sucks, but that's how it is.
