God, this. I laughed when people in the goddamn Ace Attorney fandom started defining Wendy Oldbag's attraction to Miles Edgeworth as "pedo." Then I became concerned when they wouldn't stop. For context, Wendy Oldbag is an old lady who first meets Miles Edgeworth when he is 24 years old, and the attraction is 100% one-sided on her part. NO THIS IS NOT PEDO, YOU DUMB SHITS. IT IS MERELY AN AGE GAP FOR A PAIRING THAT WILL NEVER BE CANON. How are you going to recognize actual pedophilia if you define everyfuckingthing as goddamn pedophilia?

im cool now

LMAO oh god. I thankfully haven't heard anyone calling Oldbag->Edgeworth pedo, but the AA series as a whole is just ripe for discourse. There are canon age gap ships that would be questionable or creepy if they were real, like Max and Regina, and the guy who dated Dahlia when she was 13. But the games are wacky and nobody in them, including the main characters, treats these couples with any disgust, so you just have to accept that in the universe it's set in, they're just... not problematic (other than on Dahlia's part because she was the one manipulating the guy, because Dahlia's not a normal person because the games are not realistic) and that can be true for the story. I can see making a quick comment or joke about side-eyeing the couples, but I had to stop watching a Let's Play because they would not stop harping on how wrong it was that men were dating underage girls and asking why nobody was saying anything about it in the game?! I am begging for people to learn how to read things in context.

Yup, context is lost on a lot of these antis. Rather, they willingly throw it away because it conflicts with their righteous world view. Or fictional righteous world view in this case.
