There were racist elements in her other books too. Noddy for example, with the golliwogs (that have since been removed in more recent editions). But, they were written in the 40s. Doesn't excuse it, of course, but it was 80 years ago.

I did like her books tho when I was a kid, read Noddy, the boarding school books, wishing chair, enchanted forest etc.
