Agree for the most part... though, TBF, the 'limits fic access to registered users only' part may be less about ego and more about making damn sure the real people their RPF is about can't get to it. This part, at least, seems to be pretty common (and common-sense) practise in RPF circles, for obvious reasons.

I archive-lock all my (not RPF) fic by default because... my fic is for people that I am in community with and I simply do not care if more people who haven't even bothered to get an account read it? It's not for them. Didn't realize people were judging me for having an "ego" or whatever, but, uh, I also don't care about that, so go right ahead.

Yeah, same. I'm writing for a specific community. Haven't had to moderate comments yet, but I usually assume people have a good reason for that. Bad experiences or just, lack of time to engage, even.

I agree. Also, it's not exactly hard to register an AO3 account, it only takes a week or so for the invite code to arrive, so it's hardly a high barrier for people to pass if they really want to read the fic.

Yeah I remember back on LJ I'd see RPF comms that were locked to members-only specifically for this reason, which isn't a bad call imo, most RPF shippers I know don't actually want their fic getting anywhere near the people it's about. Even on a hypothetical off-chance.

Yep yep, this. I agree with most of the secret, but if the fic in question is RPF then deffo expect it to be archive-locked to keep it out of search results and off the wayback machine.
