(Anonymous) 2022-08-10 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)

Maybe Grimm? I heard about it, but never watched it.

Try Grimm, or the eternally wonderful Buffy (and Angel).

And yes, write your stories too!

(Anonymous) 2022-08-10 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Grimm, Buffy and Angel all have overarching narratives

When you say "drifted away from the themes you liked" do you mean that it got away from a MOTW plot structure? Or something else?

(Anonymous) 2022-08-10 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you, OP. I really liked SPN when it started, but when they moved away from hunting monsters and into the whole War in Heaven thing I became bored and annoyed and stopped watching.

The War in Heaven and Hell was always part of the show structure. It was always the plan. And elements of it were there right from episode 1.

Personally I loved seasons 1-5, but once it got past the original plan, it lost itself quite a bit.

This. I will happily rewatch 1-5 but after that I stopped caring lol.

That's not what I heard. Just wondering if you have any sources for this? Because originally Kripke was reputed to say he didn't want any religion and that Sam was supposed to rescue Dean.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-11 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, the shortened s3 kinda fucked with their plans, what i would give to see the original Sam saves Dean!ending

(Anonymous) 2022-08-11 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think you're right about that.

What?

(Anonymous) 2022-08-11 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it was. I mean, the demon thing was there from the beginning, but since originally it was only planned to be three seasons long, and they introduced angels in the fourth season, that just doesn't track.

And the monster of the week was originally supposed to be more prominent, with the hunting brothers more of a framing device, but given the chemistry between Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, they decided base the monsters around what would give them what they wanted from the brothers.

Same. I don't care about the whole angels and demons angle, I only want Monster of the Week stuff.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-10 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Try Warehouse 13

I don't recall if it went into an over arching narrative, but fir the most party is was monster of the week.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-10 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you. I loved the premise and the monster of the week eps but I had no interest in the overarching plots and bailed pretty quickly.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-11 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly found the monster of the week thing kinda boring. Supernatural didn’t get interesting for me until the angels were introduced.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-11 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Same. In hindsight the MOTW episodes can be charming in a way where you know that the show is basically taxiing before take-off (and also Sam and Dean look like kids and it's a hoot). But for me the show didn't get compelling until the overarching plot started to get revealed. That was when it was like, "Oooh, there's something in this! Okay, alright."

(Anonymous) 2022-08-11 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, same. I only started really getting into the show in season 4.
