Oh wow, that definitely went over my head when I was a 10 year old watching the show. It makes a lot of sense, how the social aspect failed (and failed *because* of Sydney, specifically). They fucked up all the Pretenders, all of them had a flaw that made them ill-suited to the program - Angelo obviously, but also Kyle and Parker - and I'm not sure that I'd connected Jarod's personality and clear good natured romanticism to it.
