NAYRT, but I now feel very confused and stupid. Is it vaguely “fascist-chic”? Absolutely. But I think “Nazi cosplay” is a real stretch. The main guy doesn’t even seem to be wearing an actual uniform as much as a military-stylized jacket. The guy he’s talking to just looks like a generic scientist. And the background security people are in black tactical, not so different from SHIELD.

So…yeah, feeling like I’m missing something obvious.

You are, on purpose I suspect. Tell me your strong feelings about ethics in videogame journalism too.

Sorry, really not on purpose, just genuinely ignorant or maybe naive, I guess.

I was hoping for an explanation of what you see that I’m missing, but I know there’s no reason for you to believe I’m not arguing in bad faith.

Just to be clear: I am in no way disputing that Hydra are Nazis or Nazi-aligned (since they sometimes have weird additional motivations). Or that Wanda participated in their terrorism.

It’s just not entirely clear to me exactly what she thought Hydra’s goals or intentions were when she joined up with them. When she’s introduced into the MCU both she and her brother seem incredibly immature and naive and then they defect and get sort of redeemed super fast, again with no acknowledgment of their actual beliefs changing.

[And I had to google your comment, but I now know that it’s a reference to some bullshit defenses of Gamergate.]

NAYRT but come on.

Gosh, you're rude. And leaping to conclusions based on your own prejudices. Ironic.

No, you're right. "How could [character] not realize they were nazis when their uniforms had a fascist air about them?" is a pretty damn silly argument. I'm not even saying that one can't make a reasonable argument that Wanda must've been at least partially aware of the nature of the organization, but "their uniforms had a fascist vibe" is just...lol no.

A LOT uniforms from all over the world have a fascist vibe.
