Hmm, maybe I should give it a go.

Sorry OP but I think this is a dumbass statement. They are too completely different to compare, they're not even in the same genre!

[Not OP]
"Lucifer is an American urban fantasy television series developed by Tom Kapinos that premiered on January 25, 2016, and concluded on September 10, 2021. It is based on the DC Comics character created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg. The character was introduced in the comic book series The Sandman and later became the protagonist of a spin-off comic book series." — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucifer_(TV_series)

NAYRT

The TV shows adapted from them are in very different genres, though, and have entirely different atmospheres. It's fine to prefer one over the other, but it's not wrong to observe that they're apples and oranges.

"Based on" is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-19 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
TBH I didn't like either of them.

(Michael Sheen in the audiodrama was perfect)

Entirely ignoring the question of which of these properties was better, I will say that I do prefer a dark-haired Lucifer. White blond would be my second choice, but tall dark and brooding--for all that it's a cliche--really just fits the bill for me where Lucifer is concerned.

I was meh on Lucifer the show, but god damn (heh) Tom Ellis was a great casting choice.

IMO the middle one is the hottest.

Nothing wrong with preferring the Tom Ellis version, but I find this secret kind of hilarious, because Gwendoline Christie's Lucifer is much truer to the source material in far more respects than just appearance. The Ellis show is fun as fuck, but it's pretty much an in-name-only adaption of the comic.

Yeah, I was gonna say. Also we haven't gotten to Sandman Lucifer running their nightclub yet, so the comparison doesn't feel exactly fair.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-20 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I found it pretty hilarious too tbh

Its actually kind of interesting is that it was considered, by Neil Gaiman, to ask Tom Ellis to be on The Sandman because he had played Lucifer all ready but then decided against it because he didn't want to get into the hassle of work of making it all make sense (since that Lucifer is alot more mellow compared to what a stressed out king of hell version he would have been).

And honestly - kudos to him. Gwendolyn Christie did a fantastic job.

Unfortunately, Lucifer the show is as dumb as shit and really homophobic* despite the best attempts of Tom Ellis to flirt with every man on the show. He deserved a better show.

*Yes, I know about Eve/Mazikeen.

When David Bowie returns from hell we will finally have an accurate Lucifer. Until then these actors are merely placeholders.
