Sometimes I think modern fandom’s definition of “brothers” would include Naruto and Sasuke if that show came out today.

Oh, okay. Thought it was the troll anon being sarcastic again

Twitter is trash and not worth your time, OP.
I've read so many fics with them as a found family thing that shipping them feels a bit weird however I'm on the Chinese definition of brothers side and plan to read some Kaeluc after I go through all the gen fics.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-20 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't looked for fic of them but thinking about it a little...

...it's not the "brothers" thing that'd stop me from shipping them. Despite that under all the prickly estrangement between them they obviously care about each other, I think I can't see them in like...a healthy loving romantic relationship. More like Kaeya knows exactly which buttons to push to needle Diluc until he loses his lineface and then there's some kind of angry fuckery that happens.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-20 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
The new event gave us a lot of lore on them. I'm not even sure I like their letters being so friendly as I prefer me some more sweet sweet drama.

Here's a Kaeluc slash AU
https://archiveofourown.org/works/31069238
I just looked over my saved Genshin fics and found that it's mostly Chili with some Kaeya angst thrown in. I need more Diluc angst in my life.

The relationship works if you look at Diluc as a stoic macho man, similar to Diluc/Jean and Diluc/Reader versions of him we have all over AO3, with Kaeya a provoking scheming uke and Diluc an introverted grumpy seme.

I kind of see Kaeluc as that one ship that its most of its fans only ship to say "heehee im a problematic shipper!"

Not trying to knock anyones style but god I see absolutely no chemistry between them at all. It's like the safest "problematic" ship I can think of; they're not related enough to envoke the unholy rath of everyone on the internet (though even that seems a huge stretch), but they're related enough to still give you that taboo kick.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-21 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, just because you don't see it doesn't mean people are only shipping it to be contrarian. Personally, I absolutely see the chemistry even though I don't actively ship it and seeing how much shit people get for shipping it, it's not even close to being the "safest problematic" ship. Have you seen the toxic crap antis fling at Kaeluc shippers? I assume not because otherwise you wouldn't even think of writing something like "they're not related enough to envoke the unholy rath of everyone on the internet". That's exactly the whole issue with the ship (and the incorrect English translation).

(Anonymous) 2022-08-22 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think that's why Kaeluc in particular is popular, but I unironically love to see young fans ship things only because they're problematic! My friends and I did it all the time when we were younger, and now I can see that it was a safe way to have a rebellious teenage phase. I wish more young fans today would go back to doing that instead of trying to one-up each other having the most healthy and unproblematic ships.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-22 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
This is late but I have to say that I unironically ship them. Kaeya is a flirty asshole and Diluc is a serious moody man with a dark past that barely says anything. Instant OTP

(Anonymous) 2022-08-21 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
OP

Haha, yeah I know. But since I am active there I might as well try and make my stay as asshole-free as I can. My blocklist is loooong.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-20 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I "ship" them just like I ship literally every two (particularly, male) characters I love dearly who also happen to love each other; I don't really care if it's platonic or not, I just dig their canon dynamics and interactions in any way, shape or form, and art too.

In my head Kaeya and Diluc don't see each other as brothers and possibly never did - I fail to see how two people, unrelated by blood, suddenly become brothers when one starts living in the other's house. Sure, "adopted" except Kaeya uses his surname Alberich and acknowledges his blood family; he wasn't "adopted out", he was sent on a mission and knows it. To me as I see it (and I believe Kaeya too) Crepus is someone who took him in and helped him, and Diluc is a close childhood friend.

But people act like they are adopted brothers and it's horrible to ship them and I am just so ??? confused. Of course, it's up to them (if they were real people) to reach an agreement on what it is but really, it's such a stupid road to die on!

(Anonymous) 2022-08-20 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I get why people might see them as brothers, especially if they're playing in English, and I get why that would make a lot of people not want to ship them, but it's so annoying when people act like that's the only correct interpretation of their relationship. I don't even ship Kaeluc but I do ship ZhongXiao and the dadsonners are very much the same (probably the same people, I guess).

(Anonymous) 2022-08-21 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
it's so annoying when people act like that's the only correct interpretation of their relationship

What bugs me is that when people act like they're actual brothers, it's a complete fundamental misunderstanding of what sworn brotherhood actually is. The entire point of it is to give a close friendship the same social standing as a family bond. It's not the same thing as actually MAKING that person a family member.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-21 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
Funny to me how Western culture actually has the concept of "in-law" relatives (those that are related to your romantic partner by blood) and yet people are freaking out because they're "brothers" (source: none! No canon source other than weird translations!)

(Anonymous) 2022-08-21 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Fandom would definitely freak out about a ship between in-laws, like if two people who are married to each other each have a sibling and those siblings get together.

I think it's hilarious when Americans (it's almost always Americans) come in with their "But Mondstadt is based on GERMANY and they don't have the sworn brother thing there so it doesn't count >:( "
Uh, I'm from Germany and we absolutely have a very similar concept - it's blood brothers/blood oath and is basically the same thing as Chinese sworn brotherhood, just with the added blood part.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-21 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
+1

Marriage, on the other hand, actually DOES make your romantic partner a family member. All married sex is incest!

(Anonymous) 2022-08-21 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
The dadsonners are the absolute weirdest. I can at least understand where the anti-Kaeluc people are coming from, whereas the entire concept of Zhongli being Xiao's father figure is just something the fanbase completely made up.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-21 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ayrt
I think the weirdest thing I've seen from dadsonners is them reposting obviously shippy fanart to their tiktoks with captions about how OBVIOUSLY they don't ship them ROMANTICALLY because they're not A FREAK but it's "such a sweet father/son relationship you guiiiiiisse!" Like....bruh.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-21 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
There’s a power differential thing there that could be problematic (but interesting to explore) but yeah, I don’t see it as familial. I also don’t see Xiao initiating. 😆 If I shipped him with anybody it’d be with the Traveler anyway.
