...I've never played a RE game (I know, shame on me) so I have no reference for this music or this merchant or the context surrounding it...

But reading this secret about hearing a merchant theme and reacting to it did immediately make my brain flash back to unexpectedly running into the merchant in the SNES game Drakkhen and the incredibly creepy music that played there. So I think I understand how you feel.

Music can sure be a powerful link to our subconscious, like smell. I haven't played RE4 but I can identify with this feeling from other things.
