It's been a long time since I read either Phantom or Wuthering Heights, but setting aside whatever romantic light fandom puts him in, wasn't Erik pretty much bonkers, though?

Like, I 100% believe that if I married Heathcliff he would knock me around on the regular. Also, marital rape would definitely be a thing that was happening. But I feel like he'd be less likely to go completely off the handle and kill me to, like, keep me from leaving him or whatever. I mean, he definitely might backhand me down some stairs in a furious passion or something and kill me that way.

I just feel like Erik was unhinged in a way that seems more likely to lead to, uh, mortal theatrics.
