I think the eyes have more pronounced eyelids? Something about the eyes is definitely unusual. But other than that, it looks like fairly normal manga style to me.

Thank you! It's a boring art style with equally boring character designs and I keep seeing people praising both.

Then don't watch it on an ancient VCR?

Just looked it up. Art style seems to me like a mild combo of manga and webcomic art/stuff you'd find on Tumblr. Nothing to write home about, personally. But to each their own.

Do people praise the art though? I only see praise for the writing, and great writing can make up for bad art. I don't think the art is that bad though. It's nothing special, but it's not ugly. You want ugly, look at Attack on Titan (the manga) and even that got insanely popular for its story.

I've seen people say they consider it some of the best anime art out there, but people will say anything for a quick dime.

The art is highly functional and the monster designs vary from dull but okay to interesting (the harpies, for example). Definitely not worth raving about, but also not worth condemning.

The greatest thing since Cowboy Bebop? Have these people not watched any new anime since the early 2000s?

Huh, I think the art is lovely, the environmental details are just so cute. I can see why it might not appeal, but I’ve always liked it.

oh man, I think there's a difference between personal taste and more or less objective critics of the art (which is usually expressed by other artists and is generally taken as a popular opinion on the artstyle).
see, you can personally hate the art, and that's okay. I agree that it's more generic-ish than a lot of other mangas so I can see where you may come from. like, maybe you like Dragon Ball more (which I think is ugly, for example).
but from the artistic standpoint DM art technically is very high level. you can look at a few chapters of it and compare it to other currently popular fantasy manga like Sousou no Frieren or isekai stuff like Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute - in comparison DM has amazing background detalisation/originality, very deverse character designs (by which I mostly mean they have different silhouette/facial features/clothes, but I can argue it means race as well, just the fantasy ones) and great action/monsters art. on top of that fantasy races and creatures in DM feal real since the artist is very good with anatomy, fantasy creatures don't have any weird sized body parts on them and look very proportional and real. the panneling, effects and facial expressions are also very good, not to mention The Writing. it's no wonder so many people like it.
tl;dr - you are free to hate it, but the fact so many people like it so much is not baseless. also, never saw anyone comparing it Cowboy Bebop lol

This. You're free to think it's not to your taste, but objectively the DM art has a high level of technical skill. It's good art drawn by someone who genuinely knows what they are doing.
