What fandom grates on you?

(Anonymous) 2022-08-22 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by #12 - what fandom just annoys you to see it? No heavy political reasons here, just salty 'ugh, that again.'

The whole twitch streamer thing. I just don't get the appeal at all.

Similarly, all the Hololive and Vtuber stuff. I just don't see the appeal of watching someone pretending to be an anime character while streaming.

Not so much a fandom, but a character. Darcy Lewis. She is EVERYWHERE.

I'm finding your icon quite mesmerising.
(This is a good thing. It's a real good thing.)

It's been years and yet dark shadows still remain where the My Little Pony and Steven Universe fandoms once crawled.

"Tiger & Bunny fandom" is so specific, I almost want to say "care to develop?" .

Far too many ... far too many .....................

The "only western RPGs are real RPGs crew". The "only FPS are real games crowd". The "cultured anime fans group" of which the "jojofags" are the worst breed. Macho metalheads. The kpop kids (they're genuinely scary with their competitive and self-righteous ways and I love kpop myself!). I hate TV series and dramas as a whole, so there's that too, but british TV fans are often the worst. Disney fans. Whatever Homestuck once had for fans. Furry fandom, some trauma. Uhh I think most popular stuff gets an "ugh that again" from me and it's not in a "my tastes are soooo unique" way just in a "I dislike the thing and don't get what's so good about it" way.

Oh my. Just noticed that I am an extremely salty person who hates almost everyone based on their fandoms. LOL.

For the most part, none.

I always develop a mild, low-level annoyance with whatever the hot new things is at any given moment, purely because it ends up all over my dash with such frequency that blocking the tag leaves my dash like 50% blank posts.

Right now I'm seeing a lot of Steddie content. There was a while a couple of years ago where it was Geralt/Jaskier.

I try not to hold it against the ship or the fans, though. Popular thing is popular; whatcha gonna do.

Doctor Who and Star Wars. They have both become so nasty that I've basically left the fandoms.

I've always loved Dr Who, but tbh have also always mostly avoiding its fandom.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, for always having to make everything a JJBA reference even in places that aren't fandom related. I could be reading a fucking news article at the New York Times about the economic situation in Finland and someone will leave a comment about Stands. Funnily though, I didn't notice they were references until I became a fan myself, and it probably just reads like forgettable nonsense to people to don't know the series. I'm not sure if that makes things better or worse.

Laughed out loud. Signed, the anon who mentioned jojofags a few comments ago.

Same. I watched the show because it was really engaging. My brother warned me the fandom is intense but good God, now all I see are JJBA jokes/memes everywhere.

No fandom grates on me as hard as my own fandom when it's done just a little bit wrong.
