What was the last movie you watched and did you enjoy it?

(Anonymous) 2022-08-24 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
So I finally got around to watching the live action adaption of Aeon Flux. Yeesh. Even worse than I imagined.

Enemy starring Jake Gyllenhaal. It was really good! First movie in a long time in which I wanted to watch it again.

Jojo Rabbit. Not sure enjoyed is the right word. I mean, it wasn't bad, but it just made me sad that that shit hasn't gone away and we're still dealing with it now.

Hrmmmm...I guess 'Prey'? I mostly watched so I could watch it with the Comanche audio. It...was a Predator movie, so...eh. I wouldn't say I enjoyed it.

Operation Mincemeat

Sadly, the review I read was spot-on. The cast is great, the actual history is interesting, but the movie cares more about the interpersonal drama than the spycraft. All in all, an okay film, but I was hoping for more.

Just began watching this on Netflix three days ago.

The Netflix documentary about Woodstock 99. Ahahaha, oh fuck. I have such a fondness for failed concerts and conventions and this one was a SHIT SHOW.

The doc kind of pulls it's punches but it was still nice.

I saw a documentary on HBO about that festival and it was fascinating. I'll have to check out this Netflix one, too, see how it tackles the topic. "Shitshow" is a very apt description indeed - I was a teenager at the time, and I remember hearing about it on the news and everything, it was that big a deal. My dad worked in radio and there was even talk of sending him out there to cover the festival, but the plans fell through. And looking back, thank goodness they did.

But yeah. So much failure and stupidity all over the place with that festival, it's crazy.

My spouse, who watched it with me, was 15 and LOVED Korn and half the other bands. I was 11 at the time and super into Boy Bands and Britney Spears so this thing had *never* crossed my radar. Our reactions to the documentary were very different :D

There's one on HBO? I should watch that too.

Ha, that's great :p. I would've been 14 at the time, would've turned 15 later that year, and I was kind of in a weird limbo between those two musical spectrums. I loved Britney and Backstreet Boys and Christina Aguilera and all that, but I also liked a lot of the alternative rock that was big around that time (though I never really got into Korn or Limp Bizkit - I might've liked a song or two of theirs, but that was about it). I definitely think I was kinda trying to sort out my own musical identity around then, LOL.

But I do remember being up late that summer and watching MTV, because that was the time of day when they'd still show music videos, and that was when I heard the news about the craziness that went down there. I think I saw it in an MTV News brief or something.

And yeah, HBO put out a documentary about the festival last year as part of its "Music Box" series, which was a set of six different music-themed documentaries (there's one about DMX, and there's one about Alanis Morisette's Jagged Little Pill album that I still need to sit down and watch). The Woodstock '99 documentary is called Woodstock '99: Peace, Love, and Rage. From what I've heard about the Netflix documentary it seems like they both cover a lot of the same ground, but yeah, it's out there if you want to check it out, too :). I thought it was pretty interesting. And infuriating.

Speaking of Charlize Theron, I just got around to watching Atomic Blonde.

I thought it was.... just fine. The action scenes were great, Charlize was hot, Sofia Boutella was hot. The plot and characterization as a whole left a lot to be desired. Overall I'd give it probably a solid B.

Prey. Not a fan of the Predator movies I've seen, but I enjoyed that one.

Spider-man No Way Home.

After all my friends had reassured me that its not as bad as the other recent Marvel films, I gave it a watch and really didn't like it.
Like it was ok - and I'm not gonna lie, 12 year old me was happy to see Toby Maguire in it... but that was about it. Story wise I hated it and IDK I guess have Dr Strange there was a lowkey plug for his next movie (another one my friends are insisting is actually really good too), in addition to how ridiculous that idea was of Dr Strange being like "Ok whateves lets alter reality :D"
But I've only ever read X-men comics so IDK maybe that did happen somewhere in the comics and I'm just not appreciating what feels like one bland Marvel film after another bland Marvel film.

I swear, that movie is only watchable on first viewing. I tried to watch it again recently and finally understood why the person who went to the theater with me (who's way less affected by the nostalgia) hated the story so much.

The Elvis movie as a favour to my mother who wanted to watch it and since we found a theater where it was still running we went last weekend.

It was okay but at least an hour too long and much, much, much too loud. Like, I know sound design/mixing tends to suck in a lot of movies these days but the theater we went to definitely pumped the volume way up to the point it was actually painful. My ears honestly hurt. So yeah, that really sucked.

Magicians, this one-shot indie Korean film from 2005 directed by Song Il-gon. It was ok, but very limited by its format - very much "I have an idea for a gimmick and am going to warp everything in the film around this gimmick."

Last movie I watched: How to Train Your Dragon. I love it every time I watch.

last movie I watched for first time: Thor 4. Enjoyed it a lot, though not as much as Ragnarok.

I think it was The Batman, and yes, I kinda loved it. I was very, very surprised. I wasn't expecting to hate it, but I think it might actually be my favorite superhero movie, and I sure wasn't expecting that.
pantswarrior: Lunatic has a literal "facepalm". (lunatic)

I can't remember the last time I watched a movie for the first time (maybe Deadpool, about a year ago? It was exactly what I'd have expected and desired for a Deadpool movie, so yes, quite enjoyed it) but last week I rewatched Tiger & Bunny: The Rising with some folks on Discord. Would've enjoyed it more if the other two people's computers hadn't started having issues RIGHT WHEN LUNATIC SHOWED UP, so we had moments where the video was lagging and we had to pause for reboots and stuff. RIGHT AT LUNATIC'S ENTRANCE. ARGH. But it was fun in spite of technical difficulties, and finally I had someone to scream with about that one particular line of Nathan's. :D

Probably Encanto, a couple of months back. It was fun!
